So my experiment with blogging about my first year as an English teacher didn't exactly go as planned. I was just searching Pinterest for some ideas on using the iPads while teaching a class novel, and I began thinking about that blog I started...2 years ago! A lot has happened since I made the switch to teaching 7th grade ELA. My first year ended up being such a whirlwind that I felt like a first year teacher since I was teaching a new subject. To top it off, half way through my first year teaching ELA I found out I was pregnant. Needless to say, blogging quickly fell by the wayside. I took a maternity leave last fall, and then when I returned, the lack of sleep from having a newborn and the new experience of dealing with a large load of behavior kids left me wanting to.....sleep! Now that I have started off my year fresh with a great group of kids, I feel as though I may be able to try my hand at blogging again. So here it goes, two years later I'm going to try and document my experiences in the 1:1 iPad ELA classroom.
I'm feeling a little bit discombobulated with the iPad right now. The kids just received them two weeks ago after a long process of establishing their Apple IDs. I feel like I'm using them in the most basic ways, looking up information and playing Kahoot! I'm looking for new ways to incorporate them while teaching the novel The Forgotten Door by Alexander Key. Hopefully I'll have an exciting new lesson to share soon. Until then, fingers crossed it doesn't take me two years to post again!
